Cultural show ‘Sukoon’ against drug addiction held at KU

The show was attended by large number of students of the university, colleges, teachers, policemen and officers.
Inspector general of Police, Kashmir SJM Gillani was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
In his address Gillani said that drugs addiction was a serious issue that the current generation was confronting and the civil society civil society couldn’t succeed in overcoming it unless all of us unite in our efforts to see that this problem is done with.
“This menace needs a collective response to save our future generations,” he told the gathering at KU.
He said that in this respect J&K police apart from its core duties as the enforcer of the law especially in combating the menace of drug trafficking and drug addiction has gone a step further in 2008 by establishing a Drug De-addiction Center at PCR Kashmir which provided services to thousands of affectees.
“We do have a limited bed capacity of 11 with no separate wards for females but it is our endeavor to see that we are able to establish a modern facility outside the police premises which would have an augmented bed capacity and facilities,” he said. “We have already identified land for it and I am sure in the next few years we will have a full fledged center to expand our services to more and more affectees.”
IGP thanked the organizing committee for organizing such events and said that such programmes go a long way in bringing mass awareness among the people regarding this menace and exploring ways to get our acts together to counter it.
The show began with a scintillating performance by singer Nikhil D Souza followed by a skit show casing the consequences of drugs and at the end a voice documentary was presented in which the addiction affectees put across first hand experiences of the tribulations that they have gone through besides their message how they recuperated their lives from this deadly meance.
Among others SSP PCR Imtiyaz Hussain, Chief Proctor Kashmir University Dr. Naseer Iqbal, Cultural Officer of Kashmir University Shahid Ali Khan, SP Hazratbal Mohammad Rayees Bhat, HOD GPD Hospital Rainawari Dr. Mohammad Maqbool and Director PDDS Muhammad Muzaffar Khan attended the programme.
