Forces cordon Sopore areas amid violent protests

Police, army and paramilitary troopers Tuesday cordoned off some areas of Sopore town in south Kashmir which witnessed serial civilian killings since past three weeks, reports said.

They said that all entry points to these areas have been sealed off and no one is allowed to move inside. Police have also erected nakkas at multiple places in Sopore.

Meanwhile, scores of youth took to streets in the town near main Chowk and police station and started pelting stones on the men in uniform who retaliated with tear smoke shells and cane charging. The protesters were raising anti-India slogans.

Shops, business establishments, educational institutions banks and government offices are closed in the town to protest against the serial civilian killings by the hands of unidentified gunmen.

Police however today pasted posters of two Huzbul Mujahidin Militants, Abdul Qayoom Najar and Imtiyaz Ahamd Kandoo, in different parts of the town, alleging both are involved in the said killings.
