GAD takes strong note of discrepancy in vacancies

Seeks new list to fill up over 15000 contractual jobs

The General Administration Department (GAD) has sought details of vacancies to be filled up on contractual basis under the new recruitment policy while taking a strong note of the discrepancy in number of vacancies submitted to it by different departments and recruitment agencies.
In a recent directive, which came days before  cabinet sub-committee (CSC) finalised the new recruitment policy, the GAD has asked the departments to refer the posts under the “direct quota’’ to be filled up by the government.
GAD takes strong note of discrepancy in vacanciesIn the directive it has taken a strong note about the mismatch in the number of vacancies made available to the GAD and the recruitment agencies by the different departments.
“There is a discrepancy in the number of vacancies that have been submitted by the different departments to the GAD and the Service Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB) and Public Service Commission (PSC). The numbers vary due to which we have asked for the fresh list of the vacancies to be filled up under the direct recruitment quota,” said a senior government official of the GAD.
“The posts to be filled up under the direct recruitment quota will be made on contractual basis under the new recruitment policy while a promotion quota is being separately worked out,” added the official.
The directive is part of an exercise by the government to fill up the vacancies on contractual basis under the new recruitment policy which has been finalized by the CSC recently.
The CSC has added a provision of giving the seniority benefit to the new recruits for promotion to the next position.
Even as the GAD has sought the new list of vacancies, Forest Minister, Bali Bhagat, who was part of the CSC, said that there are at least 15,000 vacancies which will be filled up under the new recruitment policy.
He said the vacancies will be filled up in next three months time. “We will fast-track the recruitments so that the work in the rural areas is not hit,” he said.
However a senior official in the GAD said, “We expect that the number of vacancies will be more than 15000 after we get the actual number of positions available with different government departments.’’
