Kashmiri origin girl shines in US soccer

Following the footsteps of her grandfather, a Kashmiri origin girl has brought laurels tow her family by shining in the provincial level soccer league being played at Virginia, USA.

Kashmiri origin girl shines in US soccerShweta Dixit, granddaughter of former footballer of State and founding member of J&K Football Association (JKFA) M L Raina, recently helped her provincial level school side to break losing streak by scoring winning goal in the dying moments of the game. Shweta who plays for Oakton side scored winning goal against the Herndon side. Her antics where covered by all the major dailies of the US and even was highlighted in Washington Post. The experts termed her as the future star of US football.

On Tuesday Shweta completed her school education and has got admission in one of the top University of the US on the basis of her sports background.

“She completed her school education today. On the basis of her sports background she has already been given admission by one of the top University. From last five years she was been looked over by coaches and the people associated with sports and was recommended to the University by them,” M L Raina said.

“I am proud grandfather today. Even staying far away from me, Shweta did not allow her passion for the football to die down. She continued her dream in US where she studies and she has now achieved first milestone of her promising career,” said Raina.

“She trains daily under the expert coaches and aims high for the future. She continuously remains in touch with me and share every

detail about her coaching and training methods. She is hopeful that in coming time she will make big in the game and will be able to secure her place in State side,” he said.

Raina says that he is encouraging his granddaughter to achieve better training in the US under the expert guidance and better infrastructure.

“My aim is to make her achieve her dreams in football. She wants to play for India and even for J&K State. To fulfill that purpose she must get quality training in order to serve Country and State better. She is currently doing well in the US and I hope she continues her upward surge in the game before stepping into the grand stage of Indian football,” Raina said.

Shweta texted her comments from Virginia and said that she is working hard on her game and is hopeful that she will get place in State side.

“My school team has not been doing well but on individual level I have been giving my best. The quality of game in girl’s football in US is high and US women’s team is regarded highly in the World. Keeping that in view to do well here means lot,” she said.

“I am training under quality trainers and here we have got great infrastructure and facility which really help a player like me to develop her game,” she added.

About her Grandfather, she said, “He is amazing and lively person who has got great passion for football. If I love football it is all because of him and he motivates and guides me to do well always. Even at around 70 years of age his passion for the Kashmiri football has not died down. He manages time out his busy schedule and heads to Valley for watching football matches there from the stands. Such is his madness for the game of football, especially Kashmiri football”.
