As the rainfall stopped early Thursday, the Irrigation and Flood Control department (I&FC) Thursday told people not to panic as the “situation was under control”.
Reports said that the Chief Engineer I&FC Javed Jaffar said that the water has level of Jhelum river at Sangam in South Kashmir has stabled at 26.80 ft, though it still continues to flow above danger level.
Several villages in south Kashmir were inundated late last night following which flood was declared by the authorities and people were asked to shift to safer locations.
In Srinagar as well, flood alert has been sounded with the level of water at Ram Munshi bagh crossing 20 feet early this morning.
The weather has, however, improved indicating that the water levels might soon recede.
Water level in Jhelum at 9 am:
Sangam = 27.00 ft (RED),
Ram Munshi bagh = 20.10 ft (RED),
Asham = 11.66 ft (GREEN)
