Srinagar registers -0.9°C, Leh shivers at -9°C

The minimum temperature in Srinagar city dropped below the freezing point for the third consecutive night while the mercury fell to -9°C in the remote Leh district.

The cold climate has engulfed the Kashmir valley since last week when the region was enveloped in a thick layer of fog for several days.

In the remote Ladakh region, the minimum temperature dropped nine degrees below the freezing point, marking an extremely cold night in its two districts.

Kargil district of Ladakh region recorded a low of -9.7°C while its adjoining Leh district recorded a low of -9.0°C, a Weather Department official said.

In Kashmir region, the tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded a minimum of 3.4°C while the meadow resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 3.6°C.

Qazigund, which is the gateway town in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of minus 1.2 °C while north Kashmir’s frontier recorded a low of -1.7°C.
