Sajad Lone Criticizes CM Omar Abdullah as Delhi’s ‘Best Bet in Kashmir’s Destruction’
Srinagar, November 30, 2024 – In a scathing attack, Peoples’ Conference chief Sajad Lone has accused Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of being Delhi’s “best bet in Kashmir’s destruction and erosion” of its identity. Lone’s remarks came after visuals surfaced of Abdullah presenting shawls to BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which Lone interpreted as a sign of surrender.
Lone, who represents Handwara, took to social media to express his discontent, stating, “Your shawl-draping visuals of surrender meant that BJP had actually taught the people of Kashmir a lesson. The BJP had the last laugh. You displayed a rookie enthusiasm to attack them during elections and are now displaying a rookie enthusiasm in surrendering to them.”
During the election period, Abdullah’s campaign was marked by aggressive rhetoric against the BJP, which earned him significant support. However, post-election, Lone noted a shift in Abdullah’s stance, describing it as a descent from “the peaks of escalation to the language of temperance.” Lone criticized Abdullah for his apparent eagerness to align with the BJP, accusing him of betraying the trust of Kashmiris who believed in his secular stance.
Lone further highlighted the existence of a parallel power structure in Jammu and Kashmir, with both an elected government and the Lieutenant Governor’s administration. He pointed out the absence of clear business rules, leading to confusion and undermining the elected government.
Referring to recent events, Lone mentioned the dismissal of two government employees by the Lieutenant Governor over alleged terror links, criticizing Abdullah’s silence on the matter. He accused Abdullah of prioritizing his political ambitions over the welfare of Kashmiris, stating, “You don’t have the guts to fight Delhi.”
Lone concluded by reiterating his belief that Abdullah is seen as an asset by Delhi due to his compliance, emphasizing that Abdullah’s actions contribute to eroding Kashmir’s identity.
