Tragic Incident: Two Migrant Workers from Bihar Die in Budgam Landslide

Srinagar, December 3, 2024 – In a tragic incident in Kashmir’s Budgam district, two migrant workers from Bihar lost their lives, and another was injured due to a landslide in the Ichgam area. The workers, who were involved in the construction of a ring road project, faced the unfortunate accident on Tuesday morning.

According to local sources, the landslide occurred suddenly, trapping the workers under debris. Rescue operations were promptly initiated by local residents and officials, but despite their efforts, two of the workers could not be saved. The injured worker was quickly transported to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) for medical treatment.

Former J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti expressed her condolences to the families of the deceased, urging the administration to ensure the safety of workers involved in such projects. “This tragic loss of lives highlights the urgent need for stricter safety measures on construction sites,” Mufti said.

The Budgam district administration has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the landslide and to evaluate the safety protocols in place for ongoing construction projects. Officials have assured that the families of the deceased will receive necessary support and compensation.

As the news of this tragic event spreads, the community is left mourning the loss of the two workers while hoping for the swift recovery of the injured.

Six Injured In Accident Along Srinagar-Jammu Highway At Qazigund

At least six people were injured after the vehicles they were travelling in met with an accident at Mir Bazar area of Qazigund in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, officials said on Monday.

An official said that an accident took place between a Tavera vehicle (JK03D-7709) and an Alto car (JK09D-2698) at Al Stop, Mir Bazar, along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

He said six people sustained injuries while police rushed to the spot immediately after the accident took place, reported news agency KNO. “All the injured have been shifted to GMC hospital in Anantnag,” he added. Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the incident.
