A Brief History: From a Modest Beginning to a Global Attraction
The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden was established in 2007 by then-Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad as part of a strategic initiative to extend Kashmir’s tourism season beyond summer and winter. Initially, the garden had 50,000 tulip bulbs imported from Holland, but over the years, it has expanded significantly, turning into one of Kashmir’s most visited landmarks.
From a humble beginning, the garden has evolved into a global tourist hotspot, attracting thousands of domestic and international travelers each year.

The Tulip Garden has been a major driver of tourism in Jammu & Kashmir, breaking records for visitor numbers annually. Last year, the garden witnessed a record footfall of 4.65 lakh visitors, surpassing the 3.65 lakh tourists who visited in 2023.
“We are hopeful that this year’s footfall will exceed last year’s numbers. The garden’s popularity continues to rise, and we invite tourists from across the country and the world to witness this floral extravaganza,” Ahmad added.
