Omar Abdullah Criticizes LoP Sunil Sharma Over ‘Jihad’ Remarks
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah strongly criticized Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma for his repeated use of the term “legislative jihad” during Assembly discussions. Abdullah accused Sharma of perpetuating stereotypes about Muslims, questioning whether he believed Muslims were solely associated with “jihad.” “This is wrong,” Abdullah stated, emphasizing the need for respectful dialogue.
Earlier, Sharma accused Abdullah’s National Conference (NC) of promoting the “two-nation theory” and opposing the right of outsiders to buy land in Jammu and Kashmir. He argued that land ownership should be equal across India, stating, “If a Kashmiri can buy land in Maharashtra, why can’t a Maharashtrian buy land in Kashmir?”
Sharma further questioned whether the Constitution of India should not be fully implemented in Jammu and Kashmir due to its Muslim-majority population. He asserted that the region should not seek a different status based on religion.
The exchange followed Abdullah’s remarks on the land crisis in Kashmir, citing population concerns. The heated debate reflects ongoing tensions over regional identity, land rights, and religious perceptions in the Union Territory.
