Preparations Underway for PM Modi’s Visit to Dedicate Rail Link to the Nation
Reasi, 12 April 2025: A Historic Milestone in Connectivity
Security measures have been significantly heightened in Jammu and Kashmir as the region prepares for the inauguration of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 19. The project, which includes the world’s highest railway bridge and India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge, is set to transform connectivity in the region and boost tourism and economic growth.
Key Features of the USBRL Project
The USBRL project spans a 272-kilometer stretch, including a 119-kilometer tunnel, making it a marvel of engineering and a critical development for Jammu and Kashmir’s connectivity. The rail link will connect Katra to Srinagar, providing seamless access to the Kashmir Valley.
Two Vande Bharat Express trains are set to begin service on the day of the inauguration, one running from Srinagar and the other from Katra. These trains will traverse iconic structures such as the Chenab Bridge, the highest railway bridge in the world, and the Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge.
Enhanced Security Measures
In light of the Prime Minister’s visit, security has been ramped up across Reasi and surrounding areas. Additional forces have been deployed, and surveillance has been intensified to ensure the safety of the event. The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has also seen heightened security, with multiple checkpoints established to monitor vehicle movement.
Significance of the Project
The USBRL project is expected to have a profound impact on Jammu and Kashmir’s religious, tourism, and connectivity needs. It represents a dream come true for many Indians, as the rail link will integrate the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country.
Looking Ahead
As the region gears up for this historic event, the focus remains on ensuring a smooth and secure inauguration. The USBRL project stands as a testament to India’s engineering prowess and commitment to regional development.
