KCC&I Urges Urgent Action Against Rising Harassment of Kashmiris Across India
Srinagar 24 April 2025: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCC&I) has raised serious concerns over the growing harassment and intimidation of Kashmiri students, businesspersons, and residents in various states across India. In a strong statement, the Chamber condemned such actions and has formally taken up the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, calling for immediate intervention to protect the safety and dignity of Kashmiris living outside the Valley.
Kashmiris Facing Targeted Attacks & Evictions
Reports indicate an alarming rise in incidents, including:
- Intimidation of Kashmiri business owners, with some being pressured to shut down operations.
- Students facing discrimination, despite paying heavy donations for admission in institutions across India.
- Forced Evictions, where Kashmiris have received ultimatums to vacate their rented accommodations.
These unjust developments have triggered widespread fear among the Kashmiri community, threatening their livelihoods, education, and stability.
KCC&I’s Appeal for Action
In official communications addressed to top leaders, KCC&I has urged the Central Government to coordinate with state administrations and union territories to ensure effective protection for Kashmiris across the country.
Key Demands from KCC&I:
1️⃣ Strict Directives for Safety – Immediate measures to curb harassment and safeguard Kashmiris from discrimination.
2️⃣ Protection Against Forced Displacement – Ensuring Kashmiris do not lose their homes or jobs due to targeted hostility.
3️⃣ Accountability Measures – Action against those inciting hatred and engaging in illegal evictions or threats.
A Call for Unity and Justice
The Chamber has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring Kashmiris live with dignity, security, and equal rights, urging governments, civil society, and business communities to stand against discrimination and promote peaceful coexistence.
“Kashmiris are citizens of India, entitled to protection and respect. No individual should be subjected to hate or harassment based on their identity,” the Chamber emphasized.

In view of the growing incidents of harassment targeting Kashmiri students, businessmen across various parts of India, the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCC&I) has strongly condemned such actions and taken up the matter with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah, Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha, and Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah. KCC&I is deeply concerned about the violence against Kashmiris and has appealed for urgent intervention.
In official communications addressed to the Prime Minister, Home Minister, Lieutenant Governor, and Chief Minister, KCC&I has requested that the Central Government co-ordinate with all concerned state governments and union territories to ensure effective protection for Kashmiris across India.
Reports indicate that Kashmiris residing in other states have faced intimidation and threats, with some receiving ultimatums to vacate their residences. Such developments have created anxiety and fear within the Kashmiri community.
KCC&I has called for urgent directives to safeguard the safety, security, and dignity of Kashmiri students, business people, and residents living outside Jammu & Kashmir, preventing harassment and forced displacement.
The Chamber has urged both Central and State governments to implement immediate protective measures for Kashmiris living outside the region to uphold their rights and safety.
