Terrorism Targets Tourism: Industry Strikes Back with Kashmir Bandh

Kashmir Bandh Called to Protest Pahalgam Attack: Business & Trade Bodies Unite in Outrage

Srinagar 22 April 2025: The Chamber of Commerce and Industries Kashmir (CCIK), Jammu and Kashmir Hoteliers Club (JKHC), All Travel Associations, transporters, restaurant owners, and civil society groups have jointly announced a Kashmir Bandh on Wednesday, April 23, in protest against the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives and left many injured, including foreign tourists.

A United Stand Against Violence

The attack, described as one of the deadliest assaults on civilians in recent years, has plunged the region into mourning while triggering widespread condemnation across the country. The bandh aims to send a strong message against terrorism, emphasizing that such barbaric acts will not derail Kashmir’s journey toward peace, stability, and economic progress.

Tariq Rashid Ghani, President of CCIK, Speaks Out

“We have called for Kashmir Bandh on April 23 against this barbaric act of violence,” said Tariq Rashid Ghani, President of CCIK, stressing the importance of a collective response to condemn the attack and stand in solidarity with the victims.

Impact of the Shutdown

The bandh is expected to bring the Valley to a standstill, with complete closure of businesses, transport services, and major commercial establishments.

  • Tourism Sector Reeling: Hoteliers, transport operators, and local businesses—who have been severely impacted by the attack—will join the shutdown in protest.
  • Economic Disruption: While the bandh aims to be a peaceful demonstration of solidarity, the temporary halt in trade will highlight the devastating economic impact of such attacks.
  • Public Sentiment: Citizens and business owners alike have expressed grief and outrage, demanding stricter security measures to prevent future incidents.

Terror Attack Aimed at Kashmir’s Economic & Social Stability

The Pahalgam attack was a direct assault on Kashmir’s flourishing tourism industry, which has long been a pillar of the region’s economy. By targeting innocent visitors, the perpetrators attempted to instill fear and destabilize confidence among travelers.

  • Loss of Visitor Trust: The attack could lead to cancellations of travel plans, severely affecting businesses already struggling post-pandemic.
  • Call for Stronger Security: Business leaders and trade bodies have urged authorities to enhance security in tourist destinations and deploy intelligence-driven countermeasures.

Press Conference Scheduled at Radisson Collection

To further outline their concerns and demands, business and trade bodies will hold a press conference tomorrow at Radisson Collection, where key stakeholders will address security, economic fallout, and necessary policy interventions.
