SMC building permission in 3-days a hoax: Flood victims

Dr Qasba assures action

The flood victims who aspire to reconstruct or repair their flood devastated have accused some Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) officials of denying them right to get building permission within 3-days as announced by the government.
As if this was not enough the complainants said their building permission files have been tampered allegedly by some senior officials in the Planning section of SMC. They said the recently held building permission issuance program at Narshigh Garh for the area and neighboring Karan Nagar has proved nothing but hoax.
“The pages on which (SMC) Commissioner (Dr GN) Qasba Sahib personally wrote note that ‘issue building permission’, have been stolen from the files and new covering pages inserted, which is nothing but a criminal offence and tampering of official documents,” the aggrieved victims said.
A flood hit family said even though the SMC Commissioner personally visited the devastated house and wrote a note that building permission be granted for construction of the same dimension house, the concerned issued building permission of a very small house. “What permission we have been issued won’t let us make even a room than to talk of a new house,” the victims said. “On one hand the Commissioner personally took out time to visit the house because they(officials ) had been misguiding him but thereafter again we have been taken for granted by the erring lot.”
They said hundreds of building permission cases were pending at the office of Joint Commissioner Planning Mushtaq Ahmed Khan. “These officials are unwilling to grant building permissions as per laid norms,” the complainants alleged.
“These Babus have failed to understand that it is their duty to grant us building permission within the specified period and they are not doing us any undue favor,” the complainants said.
When contacted SMC Commissioner Dr GN Qasba said the matter would be seriously looked into. “I request the complainants to come to my office for immediate redressal of their grievances, if any… If allegations are found genuine strict action will be initiated against the guilty,” Dr Qasba asserted.
Sources said sensing some   discrepancies the SMC Commissioner has already “clipped some officials” for their failure to deliver their duties properly.
