‘3100 kanal land identified in Hiranagar’

The district administration Kathua has identified 3100 kanal in Hiranagar to provide 5 marla plots to 5000 families of border areas of the district.

“Working on the demand of the border people for 5 marla plots at safer places, the district administration Kathua has identified 3100 kanal land in Hiranagar,” Union Minster of State in Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Dr Jatinder Singh told border residents at Chadwal and Chak Khtriana relief camps.
He announced that within two months the land will be allotted to all 5000 border families.
Referring to the displacement of the border residents due to tension, he said that during the wars of 1965 and 1971, the security forces had built trenches to provide shelter to border residents.
“On the same pattern the government has asked BSF to create trenches so that people and children can take shelter during such situations,” he said.
He also sanctioned Rs 5 lakh from his Constituency Development Fund as relief for the border migrants.
Talking to Greater Kashmir, Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, said that a detailed report on the identified land has been submitted to MoS in PMO Jitendra Singh during his visit.
He added that the process is still in progress as more land will be identified for the affected families which will be allotted to them as per the norms set by the Central Government.
“There are around 5,000 families spread over 57 villages in the district who were affected by cross border firing and the allotment of the land to them will be made soon,” he added.
He said the Revenue Department of the state government has identified the land and now the final allotment has to be made by the Centre on certain conditions.
