Army vehicle crushes man to death in Sumbal
Protests erupted in Sumbal after an army vehicle hit a car, killing a civilian on spot near Wangipora on Monday morning. The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Ashraf Mir of Ganderbal.
His car was hit by Army’s Casper vehicle near Wangipora area of Sumbal while he was on way to Ganderbal. Soon after the incident, residents of Sumbal took to streets and tried to set ablaze the army vehicle. Witnesses said that the angry protestors tried to set ablaze a bunker of armed police situated near Sumbal bridge.
SDM Sumbal Ghulam Muhammad Bhat said that they have registered an FIR and the driver has also been arrested. “Army vehicle has been seized. Body of the deceased has been handed over to his family after post mortem,” he said. Bhat said the situation is peaceful in the area.
