Protest calendar is not a joke: Bar
The Kashmir High Court Bar Association today termed the ongoing Hurriyat-sponsored shutdown a “jolt” to the “Indian Government”. It said that it was the writ of the Hurriyat and not of the government which was being followed by the people of the Valley by obeying the weekly shutdown calendar.
The Bar said this while reacting to the speech of senior PDP leader and MP Muzaffar Hussain Baig, who on Sunday said the shutdowns called by the separatists since Burhan Wani’s killing had become a “joke”.
While speaking at a party convention in Srinagar, first since Burhan’s killing, the PDP leader also described the four months of unrest as the “most dark and oppressive time”, claiming it was a “conspiracy to dislodge” Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
“The Bar wants to tell Baig that the shutdown calls are honoured and implemented by one and all and the mandate to issue the protest calendar has been given to the leadership by the people, the latest proof of which is the meeting of all stakeholders at Hyderpora on November 8, 2016,” the Bar said
