Minor boys dismembered body sends shockwaves across Valley, Kupwara shuts in protest

The body of a 10-year-old boy with a chopped arm was recovered from a nullah at Gushi village in Kupwara district on Thursday evening.
Umar Farooq Malik, a class III student of Gulgam, Kupwara, had gone missing on July 16.
The J&K Police have formed a special investigation team (SIT) to be headed by the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Kupwara, to probe the murder.
“It is a brutal murder and we will reach the bottom of it,” Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kupwara, told Kashmir Post. After the boy went missing, the police registered a case of kidnapping in the Kupwara police station. The news about the boy’s murder sparked protests in the area and people sought severe punishment for those involved in the killing. A policeman in civvies was severely thrashed by a group of people and the police had to rescue him. The cop, identified as Ghulam Mohideen, is admitted to hospital. A complete shutdown was observed in Kupwara against the brutal murder. The killing sparked a sharp reaction from politicians. “The charred and disfigured body of the boy found in Kupwara is savage beyond imagination. If this doesn’t shake the faith of our society, what will?” former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti wrote on Twitter. Sajad Lone, former minister and Peoples Conference president, said the perpetrators of the horrendous act must be punished.
“Thanks @spvaid for constituting SIT. The perpetrators of this brutal horrendous act have to be punished. I am the father of two young children. Whole night was thinking about his final moments-the blows rained on him severing his arm and burning the face,” Sajad Lone tweeted.
