State using all resources to lure voters: Geelani

Hails Kunan-Poshpora rape victims for boycott

Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Wednesday hailed the Kunan-Poshpora rape victims for boycotting the polls.

“I admire the mass rape victims of Kunan-Poshapora for staging protest against sham elections. I also express gratitude to the people of Kulgam, Kiomoh, Khudwani and Bugam in district Kulgam for their commitment and their boycott of elections,” Geelani said in a statement.
“We are being deceived by these politicians and it is highly regretted that our nation fails to understand the deceitful politics of these parties. For last 67 years, we are worst sufferers, facing massacres, torture, detentions and our two valiant sons- Muhammad Maqbool Bhat and Muhammad Afzal Guru – were executed and thousands are facing trial and more than 600 graveyards speak all about those killed during this period,” Geelani said.
“It is obligatory for us to safeguard these cherished sacrifices but it is sad that we failed to understand our obligations. Elections are being managed by intelligence agencies and State is using all its resources to bribe voters. How can they plead our case while they believe in status quo and consider state as integral part of India?” he asked.
Hitting out at mainstream leaders, Geelani said, “They never even utter a single word about self-determination and nor they ask about the atrocities committed by forces personnel.”
“It is ridiculous and their rhetoric about resolution of Kashmir is a blatant lie,” he said.
He reiterated the shutdown call on December 8 against the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and December 9 against the elections. Meanwhile, Geelani distributed relief cheques worth Rs five lakhs and kits containing essential commodities among 50 flood-affected families.
“In phase 13, Geelani gave away cheques for Rs 10,000 and a relief kit to each of the 50 flood-affected families of district Srinagar and Baramulla. Till now Tehreek-e-Hurriyat has distributed relief among 650 flood-hit families,” a party spokesperson said.
