Edu Deptt begins process for identifying ‘smart schools’“We have planned up gradation under four leads – infrastructure development, academic intervention, management of schools and performance indicators. The work on these things is in process. The government has directed us to go ahead with complete flexibility on monetary level,” Joint Director, Education Department, Dr. Syed Abid Rashid told Rising Kashmir.
Turning government schools into model schools on parallel lines to renowned private schools was announced by Minister for Education, Nayeem Akhtar during the first Budget session of PDP-BJP government.
Some of the schools where the process is on are SP Higher Secondary School, MP Higher Secondary School, Nowhatta Girls School, Girls High School and Boys High School in Bijbehara town of Anantnag district.
The officials said Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has been interested in this development at the earliest while the education minister earlier said he wanted to start them by this year itself. “As the process is on, many of the dozen would be started by this year. However, more need to be identified,” said the joint director.
Rashid added that computer aided learning, smart class rooms and laboratories would be facilitated in these schools under infrastructure while academic intervention will cover the entire teacher and student area.
“We will have a comprehensive continuous evaluation scheme, remedial tuition, guest lectures, and career counselling cells, linguistic development and vocational training like documentary making, media skills and teaching training.”
Under management of schools, the department has to create parent-teacher committee and school management committee besides the recently announced Village Education Committee. And the Performance indicators would look after drop outs and increment in enrolment.
