May need additional deployments if situation deteriorates: Police

Urges people to open shops, assures safety

May need additional deployments if situation deteriorates - PoliceDirector General in-charge of Jammu and Kashmir Police, S K Mishra Tuesday said additional deployments may be needed if the situation in the valley deteriorates.
Addressing reporters on the sidelines of an official function here, Mishra urged shopkeepers not to hesitate to open their shops in the day. “It’s really bad that the people hesitate to open shops during day, we ensure that they will be safe and we are also ready to provide security to each and every person. So I appeal them to come out and open shops without any reluctance. Everyone should come out during day and live a normal life,” he said.
Mishra said additional deployments would be needed in case the situation deteriorates. “There are deployments already in place. However, we will enhance the deployment and would need an additional force in case the situation further deteriorates in the Valley. By and large things are improving, we will ensure that no untoward incident should happen,” he added.
The in-charge police chief was also asked whether JK police was looking for an alternative to pellet guns. He said Government of India (GoI) has established a committee in this regard. “GoI is looking into it. As soon as the committee submits report, we will look into the alternatives,” he added.
Mishra, Special DG (Coordination), recently took over the charge of DGP after K Rajendra proceeded on a 10-day leave in connection with the marriage of his daughter.
