And during peak season, these fares can reach a staggering Rs 13,000-14,000.” This exponential increase poses a significant challenge for tourists, particularly those planning family vacations. Manzoor Ahmad Pakthoon, chairman of the Kashmir Houseboat Owners’ Association, shares a concerning observation: “Travel to destinations outside India is often turning out to be cheaper for tourists from South India compared to visiting Kashmir.” This stark reality highlights the potential for tourism dollars to be diverted away from the valley, impacting local businesses and the overall economy.

The burden of rising airfares extends beyond tourists. Rauf Tramboo, President of the Travel Agents Association of Kashmir (TAAK), emphasizes an often-overlooked aspect: “It’s not just tourists who suffer.
