BJP’s bait for Mufti

Desperate to become part of the government in the state, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has formulated the first draft of its agenda paper, likely to be part of the Common Minimum Programme giving Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) an upper hand with the chief ministerial berth, while sticking to its approach over key issues.
BJP sources in New Delhi told that the first draft that the party worked out has included PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed as chief minister for a six-year term.
“In order to get in alliance, BJP has given way to PDP to hold the chief ministerial position for six year term,” they said.
“But sticking to their staunch stand, they (BJP) have not agreed to hold talks with separatist leaders.”
However, the party is in favour of taking talks forward with Pakistan over a period of time.
“Going by the hints dropped by PDP in media, BJP will keep the option of talking with Pakistan open following former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s peace building ideas,” sources added.
After her recent meeting with Governor, PDP chief and MP Mehbooba Mufti had invoked former Prime Minister A B Vajpayee. Replying to a query on BJP-PDP alliance, she said: “It is not possible till Vajpayeeji’s political process is taken forward.”
Referring to Modi’s “dream” of development and addressing the problem of unemployment, the PDP chief had said there cannot be “development till there is peace on the ground”.
The much debated issue of revocation of Article 370 has been put on the back-burner by the BJP high command while repealing Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) has not been taken into consideration. On paper, BJP has assured that security forces won’t be allowed to misuse the powers granted by AFSPA.
Taking a leaf out of the PDP’s policy, BJP is planning to propose a “healing touch with effective governance.”
To take the people of Jammu and Kashmir in confidence under the new government, BJP would be spending on generating job opportunities and setting-up of industrial infrastructure.
“There would be direct communication with the people of state. Besides this more money would be made available under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna.”
