HC wants latest report on Dal Lake flood victims

The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has sought the latest status report from the government on the process initiated to offer pre-fab structures or monthly rental allowance for the flood victims whose residential structures have collapsed or have been declared unsafe within 200 meters from the fringes of the Dal Lake here.
The direction came after Advocate General M I Qadri informed the division bench of Justice Muhammad Yaqoob Mir and Justice HasnaianMassodi that Secretary Housing & Urban Development Department has already initiated the rehabilitation process of flood affected Dal dwellers.
In the compliance report filed by Vice Chairman of Lakes & Waterways Development Authority, it has been stated that for relocation of such victims, a policy by the Government at appropriate level in accordance with J&K Government Business Rules shall be formulated.
The Court was also informed that Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar has been approached for providing accommodation in pre-fab structures or monthly allowance of Rs 5000 for a period of four months in accordance with Government policy applicable to such cases.
Earlier, the High Court had asked the government to disclose its policy decision with regard to shifting of inhabitants to alternate sites whose structures were damaged in the recent floods in Dal lake.
Senior Counsel and  Amicus Curie in Dal Lake preservation case, Z A Shah had submitted that in the wake of the recent floods, the  LAWDA brought it to the notice of court that some structures have suffered  damages in the Dal Lake.
