JK’s real problem is father-son, father-daughter rule: PM Modi

Says high voter turnout victory of ballot over bullet

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday made a passionate appeal to people of Jammu and Kashmir to “uproot dynasty rule from the politics of the state.”

Addressing his maiden public rally in Poonch area of PirPanjal region, Modi said the state is going to witness historic polls in its history. “People have already defeated bullet with ballot in the first phase of polls with more than 70 percent voting,” he said.
Speaking from a pulpit at Poonch Stadium near the Line of Control, Modi urged people to “uproot dynasty rule from Jammu and Kashmir because such a rule has ruined this state and is responsible for its under-development.”
Without directly naming Abdullahs and Muftis, the Prime Minister said the “real problem in J&K is dynasty rule by father-son and father-daughter and polls are the only means to treat this problem.”
Launching a direct attack on National Conference and People Democratic Party, Modi termed dynasty politics as a “disease”. “Dynasty politics, family politics, politics of nepotism is a disease where father-son, father-daughter rule the state. This is a disease and I seek the help of the people to eradicate it,” Modi said.
In Poonch, he said that even though it takes 24 hours from New Delhi to reach the district, it took 40 years for a Prime Minister to visit this area.
“It has taken around 40 years for a Prime Minister to come to this place. Last time Morarji Desai came here some 40 years ago and now I am here, but I will continue to visit this place again,” he said.
IN UDHAMPUR
Modi said the heavy voter turnout in the first phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir has “made it evident that people preferred ballot over bullet.”
In an attempt to give credit to his government for the high voter turnout, Modi, who was addressing an election rally in Udhampur, said “it is for the first time that such a huge voter turnout has been seen in this state.”
He termed the high voter turnout as “victory of democracy in J&K.” “This time voters have given a defeat to those who always suppressed them with bullets,” he said.
Without directly referring to attack in Arnia sector of Jammu region yesterday, the PM said “militants are frustrated as they have failed to suppress voters. They (militants) think that despite creating violence, they have failed to kill democracy as it is still alive among the people.”
