Chenab Valley shivers amid fresh snowfall

The entire Chenab Valley is under the grip of severe cold wave due to continuous rain and snowfall in several areas, hitting normal life badly.
One to two feet snow has accumulated in upper reaches of Chenab Valley while in plains heavy rainfall forced people to stay indoors.
Reports said that people residing in upper reaches are facing hardships due to non-availability of food grains and kerosene oil and there is also acute shortage of essential commodities in various parts of Doda, Bhaderwah, Thathri, Gandoh, Bhallessa and villages of district Kishtwar.
An overnight whooshing of western disturbance, erupting from the Mediterranean Sea, Sunday night resulted in fresh snowfall and rains across upper reaches of Chenab Valley, especially Bhaderwah, plummeting the temperature by several notches.
Due to the fresh snowfall in upper reaches and continued rainfall in plains, winter chill returned to Chenab Valley , forcing people to remained inside their houses and  despite high velocity winds, upper reaches of Chenab Valley witnesses fresh snowfall especially Bhaderwah which is also known as Chotta Kashmir.
Across Chenab Valley , normal life was partly crippled as roads and  other townships remained waterlogged. With incessant rains and snowfall resulting in sudden drop of temperature, people had to go back to winter attire as woolen clothes  and Bukhari  took the centre-stage once again.
According to reports from some of the snow-bound areas, people are facing problems due to shortage of ration and other essential commodities. While the departments concerned in Doda have claimed that sufficient stocks of ration, kerosene oil and other items had been ensured, in some parts of Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, Gondho and Bhalessa, people are facing acute shortage of kerosene oil and ration, and are demanding that these be supplied immediately.
