Geelani, Shah call for shutdown in Sopore on Jan 6

Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani has called for complete shutdown in Sopore town of Baramulla district on January 6, Tuesday, to mark the 22nd anniversary of massacre in the Apple Town in which 55 civilians were killed.
In a statement, Geelani said, “conscious nations never forget sacrifices of their martyrs.” “On January 6, 1993, Indian troops massacred 55 innocent civilians. We share grief and pain of the bereaved families. I appeal the international human rights organisations to initiate probe into Sopore massacre and similar other incidents and punish the accused troops for committing heinous war crimes,” he said.
Geelani appealed the people of Sopore to observe complete shutdown on January 6. ”After offering afternoon (Zuhr) prayers in their respective Masajid, I appeal people to assemble outside the Jamia Masjid Sopore and participate in a procession to pray for peace to victims and renew their pledge for taking Kashmir movement to its logical conclusion,” he said.
Meanwhile, senior leader of Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir and Chairman Democratic Freedom Party, Shabir Ahmad Shah also called for shutdown in Sopore on January 6.
“We can never forget those 55 innocent people who were massacred on January 6, 1993. They sacrificed their precious lives for the cause of freedom and our hearts will always remember them,” Shah said in a statement.
