Geelani meets Pak envoy, says PDP used anti-BJP sentiment in Kashmir

All Parties Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Geelani during a three-hour long meet with Pakistan High Commissioner in New Delhi Abdul Basit Tuesday said the ‘Peoples Democratic Party is not peoples’ representative but cashed in on the anti-BJP sentiment during polls in Kashmir valley’.

Geelani, who met Basit at 2 PM, discussed various issues pertaining to the present political situation in Jammu and Kashmir. He hailed Pakistan for continuing its support to the ‘resistance’ movement in Kashmir.

Sources said that Geelani, in the meeting, told Basit that as the euphoria is being created by the media over the representative character of the new government in JK, it in reality is a hoax and that the polls were held ‘under the barrel of gun with no democratic principles’.

The senior leader took a jibe against the PDP saying that ‘ the pro-India group made people to vote and en-cashed the anti- BJP sentiment in Valley’.

The Huriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar said over phone from New Delhi that in the meeting between Geelani and Basit, the Pak envoy assured that Islamabad would continue its diplomatic support to the people of Kashmir and there would be no ‘compromise’ on the right to self determination to the people of the Himalayan region.

Over holding of dialogue with New Delhi, Geelani stated that the government of India must accept Kashmir as a dispute and people of the region as a party to it.

On unity among the pro-freedom camp, the senior leader said, “On principle we are not against the unity but unity of those parties only would be possible whose stand would be complete freedom and not any out of box solution.”

“We too want unity but it should not be the unity of heads but the unity of principles. Our alliance will be only possible with those pro- freedom parties who would accept nothing less than freedom as a solution to the Kashmir dispute,” Geelani, according to Akbar, told Pak envoy.

Basit told Geelani that during his proposed meet with the Government of India, Pakistan would intimate it that the resolution of Kashmir must be the core agenda between the talks, Akbar said.
