Woman held in Jammu for kidnapping teenage girls in Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday arrested a woman and rescued two teenage girls who had been kidnapped, an official said here.

He said two minor girls who had gone missing from Kupwara district in Kashmir were rescued in Jammu.

“Police launched a massive search operation after two girls of the age of about 15 years were reported to be missing from Singdan Warson soon after they had left for market to purchase some food items on April 14,” he said.

During the search for the girls, he said, it surfaced that the duo were been kidnapped. Subsequently, a case FIR No. 21/2015 u/s 363 RPC was registered in Kralpora.

The investigating team worked out different angles and raided many places to trace the girls.  Police got a lead that the girls were in Jammu, he said.

“Immediately police was deputed to Jammu and they successfully rescued the missing girls.”

A woman, Shaheena who is a resident of Hatmulla in the frontier district has been arrested in this case, he said.

Further investigation in the case is going on and more arrests are expected, he added.

The officer, in the statement, didn’t mention the reasons behind the kidnapping.
