Pakistani flags raised in Kashmir, again
Pakistani flags were once again waved in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.
The supporters of Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq also raised terror organisation Lashkar-e-Toiba’s flags and pelted stones at security forces.
The authorities had on Thursday imposed restrictions in six police station areas of Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital to foil plans of moderate Hurriyat Conference to hold a rally on the death anniversary of its two leaders.
Farooq was placed under house arrest on Wednesday, a day ahead of the rally to commemorate the death anniversary of his father, who was assassinated by gunmen in 1990.
Unidentified assassins had killed Mirwaiz Molvi Farooq in his Nigeen residence on May 21, 1990.
Abdul Gani Lone was killed on May 21, 2002 in Srinagar city during a separatist rally held to commemorate the death of the elder Mirwaiz.
Earlier, hardline separatist leader Masrat Alam was sent to jail for raising pro-Pakistan slogans and waving the Pakistani flag on April 15.
