Kashmir doctors’ body demands ban on sale of Maggi noodles until quality checkDoctors Association of Kashmir (DAK) Wednesday demanded ban on sale of Maggi in Kashmir valley after the noodle brand was banned in Delhi and other parts of the country over safety concerns.

“Government should immediately stop sale of Maggi in Kashmir and withdraw all stocks from the market till there is clarity on the quality of the product,” DAK said in a statement.

It claimed that Maggi has been found to contain synthetic monosodium glutamate (MSG), a taste enhancer and dangerously high levels of lead content.

“Lead can cause serious health problems and children are especially vulnerable to lead poisoning which can cause permanent learning and behavior disorders,” said Dr Nisar ul Hassan, President DAK.

Synthetic MSG, he said, can cause burning sensation of mouth, muscle tightness, fatigue, headache, flushing and tingling or numbness.

“Food safety department (FSD) should wake up from slumber and be proactive as unsafe food is a direct attack on life,” Dr Hassan said.

“FSD should lift samples of all the batches of Maggi and make results public till then people should stop eating the snack.”
