NCC Cadets from Kashmir, joins security forces in YogaKashmiri NCC cadets today joined Army and other security forces in yoga in different parts of the Kashmir valley though common people and school students stayed away. Yoga camps were organised in different parts of the valley by Army, CRPF and BSF besides other security agencies on the International Yoga Day being, celebrated throughout the globe. However, common people and students did not join the Yoga Day celebration and there was also no official function in the Valley though a number of functions were held in winter capital of the state, Jammu. Defence Ministry spokesman Lt Colonel N N Joshi said Kashmiri NCC cadets, both boys and girls, joined the Army in beforming yoga asans as a part of healthy lifestyle initiative. The Srinagar based Chinar Corps joined the local youth by conducting yoga as part of their daily physical activity in all parts of the Valley, including in high altitude posts.Yoga is an ancient physical and spiritual discipline and branch of philosophy that originated in India reportedly more than 5,000 years ago.

He said in the Valley, the International Day of Yoga was observed in many venues with the NCC cadet joining the Army at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar, Government Degree College Anantnag, Baramulla, Uri, Kupwara & Gulmarg. The NCC Cadets and large number of school children participated with zeal and enthusiasm. In order to bring awareness among the masses about the healthy life style and benefits of Yoga, the Chinar Corps had observed June 15 to 21 as a Yoga week where in NCC cadets from all the Colleges and Schools and the troops of Chinar Corps in the Valley practiced Yoga on a daily basis and finally observed today as the International Yoga day, thereby marking this event as a grand success. He said the NCC Group Headquarter Srinagar today celebrated International Day of Yoga at eight venues in Kashmir and Ladakh including Srinagar, Baramulla, Uri, Bandipura Tangdhar, Anantnag, Kargil and Leh.

Over 4,700 NCC cadets participated with zeal and enthusiasm across these venues. These NCC cadets had undergone structured training on Yoga by trained Yoga instructors.

The celebrations at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar had a participation of over 1200 NCC cadets. A similar strength celebrated the day at the picturesque Leh.

Expressing his views on the day Brig S S Ratnaparkhi, Group Commander, NCC Group Headquarters, Srinagar said that the event was a phenomenal success and the credit goes to the cadets for their willing participation.
