Traffic jams give tough time to commuters

“We have been stuck in traffic jam for past nearly an hour. Traffic department has failed to regulate vehicular movement,”

Commuters faced a tough time on Thursday due to traffic jams at several areas in the summer capital.
Traffic jams give tough time to commutersAmid rains, traffic jams were witnessed at several areas including Sonwar, MA Road, TRC crossing, Regal Chowk, Abdullah Bridge, Rajbagh, Ikrajpora, Wazir Bagh, Batamaloo, Tengpora and Rawalpora.
“We have been stuck in traffic jam for past nearly an hour. Traffic department has failed to regulate vehicular movement,” said an aggrieved commuter stranded in traffic jam at Rajbagh.
The problem was compounded by wrong parking and kiosks of street vendors on roadsides. “The Traffic Plan announced by authorities last month is gathering dust on papers. We are suffering due to sheer mismanagement of traffic by concerned authorities,” said a group of commuters at TRC Crossing.
Traffic department had recently banned parking of vehicles on roadside from Radio Kashmir crossing to Amira Kadal. “But authorities have failed to implement it. As a short cut measure, they have closed all u-turns which has added to the traffic mess,” the commuters said.
SP Traffic (City) Haseeb-ur-Rehman said “due to heavy rains, traffic slowed down on various routes. Besides, construction of flyover on Rambagh-Jehangir Chowk has increased traffic pressure to city-centre areas through Abdullah Bridge.”
