Downtown Cricket League award ceremony witnesses pro-freedom slogansDuring the award ceremony, spectators raised  pro freedom and pro Pakistani slogans from the top of their lungs.
Some of the boys wishing anonymity said that they smell something fishy in organizing such events. They alleged that such events basically are meant to divert the attention of youth from the real cause to something different. “How is this league going to help the boys in future. DCL is no way any platform that would be considered anywhere.”
Another boy said,” such events won’t make us forget the real cause until that is not addressed such events have no meaning.”
However the players had different views. “This league is organized by the business tycoons of the valley and it’s very productive. Government should also organize such events to lure boys, especially from downtown, if they really want to get rid off stone pelting, “a player from Elegant Super Kings said.
President DCL and Al Khudaam team owner Sheikh Ashiq said it’s unfortunate that sports and politics get mixed in the valley. “Unfortunately here in Kashmir political interference is seen in sports but I believe sports should be free from politics. We initiated this cricket league with the sole aim of promoting talent and there is no interference of any politics in this league. It is just to boost the cricketing talent in the valley. We are also looking for cross LOC leagues and we strongly advocate for that.”
RJ Sameen who was present at the stadium said, “This event is important as the local lads get a chance to rub their shoulders with the international stars like Parvez Rasool and Khajuria. It will boost the confidence of the young boys.”
