Search operation continues in north KashmirA massive search operation was going on in the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara, where a militant killed and a security force personnel was injured in an encounter last evening. Official sources said with the first light this morning, search operation was resumed in the village Hajinaga in Kupwara. However, so far no contact was established with the militants.

The encounter ensued after troops of 41 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a joint search operation in village Hajinaga yesterday. However, when security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there fired at them indiscriminately with automatic weapons.

The security forces retaliated, ensuing an encounter, they said, adding in the exchange of fire, a militant was killed while a jawan was injured. The injured was immediately taken to a hospital. Because of darkness and to avoid civilian causalities, the operation was stopped last night, they said, adding additional security forces were rushed to the encounter site to further tighten the cordon to foil any attempt by militants to escape.
