SOG, Army unleash terror in Bandipora areas
People in Bandipora on Monday accused Special Operation Group (SOG) and Army personnel of ‘unleashing terror’ among people by unprovoked beating and harassment.
“Armed personnel and SOG men beat the passengers and drivers without any reason in the garb of frisking and searches,” they alleged.
Passengers and eyewitnesses said that SOG Personnel today morning stopped a sumo travelling to Srinagar near Garoora and severely thrashed passengers traveling in it without any reason.
“They (SOG men) beat me ruthlessly for no reason. They also beat many passengers,” said a passenger.
Locals in Garoora, Nadihal and Saderkoot told that attacking passenger’s vehicle and thrashing passengers by SOG is a routine now after a police officer was killed by militants in Bandipora.
“Thrashing and attacking passengers’ vehicles is a common scene now, we informed higher-ups but they hardly pay any heed” Said a local in Garoora.
We got scores of phone calls from various parts of Bandipora, with people complaining that SOG along with army men are beating and harassing people in the garb of frisking and searches.
When contacted SSP Bandipora Shabir Chuadhary expressed ignorance about the matter and assured it will be looked into.
