Valley to witness rains, snowfall for next two daysWeather in Kashmir Wednesday remained dry but the Meteorological Department has predicted a spell of rains and snowfall beginning Wednesday night.
“Snow and rains are expected from tonight,” Meteorological Department officials told KIF. They said that erratic weather will continue for two days.  “There is expectation of improvement in weather from Friday afternoon,” they said.
MeT officials said that fresh Western Disturbance has approached the region. “There will be moderate to heavy snowfall on higher reaches. Most of the plains will receive moderate rains,” they said.
MeT officials said that minimum temperature in most places of Kashmir division stayed below the freezing point on Wednesday.
They said Srinagar recorded a low of minus 0.8 degree Celsius, down by over three notches from the previous night’s 2.5 degree Celsius.
Pahalgam in Anantnag recorded a low of minus 3 degrees Celsius, while the ski-resort of Gulmarg in Baramulla registered its minimum at minus 2.2 degrees Celsius. Kokernag town in south Kashmir was the only place in the division where the minimum settled above the freezing point.
The night temperature in Qazigund remained same as that of the previous night’s 0.2 degree Celsius. Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 1.7 degree Celsius compared to 1.8 degree Celsius the previous night.
MeT officials said that cold wave continued to grip Ladakh region. The minimum temperature in Kargil went down over two degree from the previous night’s minus 7.2 degree Celsius to settle at a low of minus 9.4 degree Celsius. They said Kargil was the coldest recorded place in Jammu and Kashmir.
