Fearing 2008-like violence, KEA slams Govt over land allotment row

‘Separatists must devise peaceful strategy to prevent the situation from going out of hand’

Fearing 2008-like violence, KEA slams Govt over land allotment rowKashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) Tuesday said conspiracies were being hatched to allot state land to outsiders leading to Amarnath land agitation-like situation.

In a statement, KEA chairman, Haji Muhammad Yasin Khan, who also heads Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) said some forces within the government seem hell bent to create an atmosphere of unrest.

“Timings of such conspiracies seem to be a part of a sinister design. Right from the plan for construction of township for Kashmiri Pandits to setting up of Sainik Colony to industrial policy for allotment of land to non-locals, a conspiracy is being hatched to convert Kashmir into Gaza where Muslims will finally have to live in ghettos ruled by RSS,” Khan said.

“Each and every unusual development, which is taking place in the PDP-BJP alliance since last year, suggests that the basic motive of every government order is to systematically erode Article 370 and to allot the land to outsiders,” he added.

As if this all was not enough, Khan said, the government has started construction of shelters for non-state subjects in the state.

“In the garb of shelter for downtrodden from outside state, the government wants to permanently settle non-state subjects and this is something which we will never tolerate and each and every Kashmiri will fight it tooth and nail,” he said.

Khan also speculated over the timing of the land allotment controversies. “All this is happening close to June, which has witnessed several agitations in the past including the 2008 agitation over allotment of 800 kanals of forestland to Amarnath Shrine board. That time it was land for Amarnath shrine board alone whereas now multiple attempts are being made to grab our land,” he said.

He said Kashmir was being dragged towards uncertainty. “And if the state government is serious in creating a peaceful atmosphere, it must instantly revoke all such sinister orders and make its position clear before people.”

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi must understand that such plans, which look to be brainchild of RSS being implemented through PDP, would only create chaos and unrest.”

Given the snowballing of controversy of land allotment to outsiders, Khan said it was the duty of the separatist leadership to avoid any chaotic situation.

“The separatists must act through peaceful and unified strategy to prevent the situation from going out of hands which end up in loss of human lives,” he said.

“Kashmiri businessmen are for peace, prosperity and communal brotherhood in all the three regions of the state. We don’t want anything which vitiates the atmosphere and drags the state towards another Amarnath like agitation,” Khan said.
