SMC, Revenue evacuate 17 kanals of land at HMT

In a joint inspection by officials of Revenue department and Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Wednesday evacuated 17 kanals of illegally occupied land at HMT opposite Ansari Toyota at outskirts Srinagar.
A team, headed by Sub District Magistrate (SDM) Srinagar west, Rifat Naseem reached the spot and evacuated the land with the help of revenue and SMC officials.
Tehsildar HMT Showkat Ahmad told Kashmir POST that it was government land and it was allotted to people in past under the scheme “Grow More Food’’.
He said that people were not growing food but had started establishing business units including Car Service centres on the land.
Earlier the revenue department had informed and discussed it before the District Development Commissioner and Assistant District Development Commissioner.
They appointed a team in which SHO, SDM, Tehsildar and Joint Commissioner Planning (SMC) were members.
SDM Srinagar west Riffat Naseem said that it was a complete occupation. “Such drives will continue against the illegal encroachments in the future,” she said.
In the anti-encroachment move they also damaged the structures which were illegally constructed.
Enforcement Officer, Municipality, Masood-ul-Hassan said, “We provided them the demolition squad. Our team removed the concrete structures which were demolished by JCBs. It is good step and we are assisting them.”
