Curfew, restrictions continue in Valley, Mobile, Internet services restored in Jammu
Authorities continued curfew and restrictions on Tuesday in the Kashmir Valley.
“Curfew shall continue without any relaxation in Anantnag, Shopian, Kulgam and Pulwama districts while restrictions will remain in force in parts of Srinagar, Sopore and Kupwara,” a senior police official told IANS.
An unruly mob on Monday torched an irrigation department office in Anantnag town.
Clashes continued in south Kashmir areas as people tried to march to Anantnag town in response to the separatist called protest march on Monday.
Clashes also occurred in old city areas of Srinagar after authorities arrested separatist leaders Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Syed Ali Geelani.
Both Mirwaiz and Geelani tried to defy house arrest.
The two senior leaders were later returned to their residences where they continued to remain under house arrest.
No educational institute is currently functioning in the Valley although the summer vacations officially ended on Sunday.
Train services between Baramulla and Jammu`s Bannihal town remained suspended since July 9, a day after Hizbul commander, Burhan Wani was killed in a gunfight.
So far, 49 people including 47 civilians and two policemen have been killed in the unrest following Wani`s killing.
Mobile and internet services were restored in Jammu region after 16 days on Tuesday, officials said.
“The divisional administration reviewed the suspension of mobile Internet services in the Jammu region yesterday and it was decided to restore the same from midnight,” a senior police officer said in Jammu.
Mobile internet services had been suspended on July 10 in entire Jammu region following unrest in the Kashmir Valley.
Both call facility and mobile internet services, however, continued to remain suspended in the Valley.
Limited calling facility is, however, available on post paid mobile phones provided by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in the Valley while no mobile internet facility is available on these phones.
Internet services are working in the Valley on fixed landline connections provided by the BSNL.
