Curfew, Protest Shutdown continue across Valley, One injured seriously in Qazigund firingAt least three civilians, one of them seriously were injured when police opened fire on a mob in Qazigund area of South Kashmir.

Sources told Kashmir Post that police tried to stop a mob that was heading to block the Srinagar-Jammu highway. They used tear smoke shells to disperse them and three people got injured. One of them was severely hit and has been shifted to hospital.

Curfew and restrictions amid protest shutdown called by pro-freedom leaders continued for the 24th day in Kashmir on Monday.

Curfew continued in south Kashmir’s Pulwama, Kulgam and parts of Shopian district and restrictions were still imposed in Srinagar, Budgam, Kupwara and Baramulla districts. “Preventive measures shall continue to maintain law and order,” a senior police officer said here.  Despite the restrictions, some private transport was witnessed in many uptown and outskirts areas of Srinagar city.

Private and public transport were also seen on the Srinagar-Jammu and Srinagar-Leh highways. Pro-freedom leadership has extended the protest shutdown till August 5. Many markets in interior areas of Srinagar and other cities and towns of the Valley opened on Sunday evening. The pro-freedom leadership has asked people to resume normal activities after 6 p.m.

Senior pro-freedom leaders including Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Yasin Malik continued to remain under house arrest
