Bajrang Dal, VHP workers protest, burn Farooq’s effigy at NC’s Jammu office

Activists of right-wing Vishva Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal Monday protested against National Conference and burnt the effigy of NC president and former chief minister Farooq Abdullah.
Over a dozen saffron activists assembled outside the NC office here in the afternoon, and some of them even attempted to climb over the gates, which were closed by SSB guards.
The activists were carrying saffron flags and sharp edged weapons including knives. They shouted slogans against Farooq Abdullah and termed him anti-national for his statement in which he had said that “new generation of militants in the State were fighting for freedom of this nation”. They also demanded that Farooq should be sent to Pakistan for his “anti-national” remarks.
Police from Residency police post was present at the spot, but they did not try to intervene. As soon as the activists tried to climb over the main entry gate of the NC office, the SSB guards closed it preventing their entry into the premises. They burnt the effigy of Farooq Abdullah.
Talking to Kashmir Post over phone, a senior NC leader said when they were inside when they heard the noise “and suddenly security guards ran to close the gates”.
“When we came out and saw the Vishva Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal activists, it was frightening. We rang up IG Jammu and informed him about the inaction of police and why the saffron activists were allowed to create trouble outside the NC office.”
He said that in the recent past as well, there was a protest but the police did not allow the saffron party workers to even come close to the NC office.
“Today’s protest seemed to have been facilitated by the police as it remained mute spectator and did nothing to stop them. We condemn the incident. The police should have stopped them but it was not done.”
“At the time of attack, Jammu provincial secretary of National Conference Sheikh Bashir Ahmed was inside along with some workers,” State vice president of NC, Rattan Lal Gupta told Kashmir Post.
