Life comes to grinding halt across Valley post Kulgam Encounter

Normal life in Kashmir came to a halt again on Monday in response to the separatists call against the killing of two civilians in Kulgam district following an encounter between militants and security forces yesterday.
The Police and CRPF personnel were deployed in large numbers in sensitive areas in the capital city and major towns of the Valley, particularly Anantnag and Kulgam districts of south Kashmir. However, no restrictions were imposed in any part of the Valley, even as strict vigil was maintained to prevent any law and order situation.
All the shops and business establishments across the Valley were closed and normal traffic was off the roads, though private vehicles and auto-rickshaws were moving in many areas. Mini buses were also plying in some areas here. Attendance in government offices was thin due to lack of public transport on the roads. There were reports of clashes in Anantnag town and some areas of Pulwama and Kulgam districts. Four south Kashmir districts of Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian have been the epicentre of unrest in Kashmir following the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani on July 8 last year.
Meanwhile, the police, in an attempt to check the rumours about the death of some of the injured persons in the clashes in south Kashmir yesterday, have clarified that the injured were “stable and there were no reports of any injured person succumbing”.
A police spokesman said there were “false updates on some WhatsApp groups and Facebook pages” regarding the death of some injured persons. “The update is misleading,” he added.
