Mirwaiz Umar Farooq threatens agitation if Article 35A abrogated

Separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today warned that people will hit the streets if the state’s special status is harmed by abrogating Article 35A.
In a statement, the separatist leader said after allowing the imposition of the GST in the state, “hectic efforts are underway by the BJP and the RSS to altogether do away with the special status of J&K by challenging Article 35A in the Supreme Court.”
“As this Article bars non-state subjects to settle and buy property in J&K, it is being challenged in a court with a view to alter the demography of the state by settling people from outside the state, with the right to acquire land and property, and vote in the Assembly elections,” Mirwaiz said.
Mirwaiz said the abrogation of the Article “is basically aimed at reducing the 75 per cent Muslim majority of the state to a minority and change the basic character of the state in order to undermine and deeply affect its disputed nature”. “It (is) being done under a deliberate plan and is part of the much-flaunted ‘final solution’ to the Kashmir dispute by the Indian state, led by the RSS,” he added.
