Protest against ‘Failure’ of legislators to safeguard JK’s Special Status

Accusing legislators from Jammu and Kashmir of “failing” to safeguard special status of the state, Jammu Kashmir People’s Alliance, a newly floated party held a sit-in at Press Enclave on Tuesday.
Holding placards which criticised members of Legislative Assembly, Legislative Council and Members of Parliament from the state for “failing” to counter the proposed abrogation of Article 35-A, protesting members of JKPA also shouted pro-freedom slogans.
The placards took a dig at some legislators. “I am unable to do anything to prevent Article 35-A…… I am a liability for Kashmir”, one of the placards read.
Speaking to media persons, Sheikh Imran, president, JKPA said the protest was held to safeguard interests of the state which is secured by Article 35-A.
“Abrogation of Article 35-A will lead the state to pre-1947 position. A lot of people are asking us why are we shouting pro-Azadi slogans. These slogans are being shouted because if our rights are being tampered, our right becomes freedom then,” Imran said.
He accused the state legislators of having “miserably failed” to protect the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
“It is quite unfortunate that our legislators have failed to take any concrete steps with regard to this (35-A) issue which has forced us to come out on roads. We appeal our legislators to form a road-map to safeguard Article 35-A. The only time CM spoke about Article 370 was after meeting PM Modi and has been tight lipped ever since then,” Imran said.
Later in a statement issued, JKPA appealed trade federation, students, civil society alliance, women and youth to come out on roads and protest to safeguard rights of citizens of J&K.
