Braid Chopping victims to go through lie detection test, blood sampling: IGP

The victims of mysterious braid chopping will have to undergo blood sampling and lie detection tests, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Muneer Khan said Friday.
“Blood samples from all the victims of the braid-chopping will be collected and all of them will have to pass through a lie detection test,” Khan told Kashmir Post.
Many victims had alleged that they were sprayed with some chemical that left them unconscious.
“We have decided to take blood samples and find what type of chemical it is, which makes one unconscious in a second and restores consciousness in three seconds,” Khan said adding the police are puzzled over the contents of mysterious spray.
“The victims will also have to pass through the lie detection test so that police is able to actually see if the claims are authentic,” he said.
“We will try to find out what this mystery is all about,” he said adding that FIRs have been filed in all 102 cases of braid-chopping.
Khan said that the cases of the braid chopping are similar to the cases in the other states and regions.
There were thousands of cases in Utter Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and doctors after proper research have termed it as mass hysteria, Khan said.
“In these states it was found by the doctors that this is mass hysteria syndrome, besides some cases of attention seeking,” he said indicating that the Braid chopping…
cases in Kashmir were no different.
“In Jammu region 252 cases have been reported in which only three FIR’s have been filed,” he said.
The first braid-chopping incident was reported from Larnoo area of Anantnag district on September 6, in which a school girl, Naira Nazir became the victim.
Since then there has been a continuous surge in incidents across Kashmir, leading to an extraordinary crisis. Protests have erupted across valley and at a number of places people were caught and beaten on suspicion of braid chopping. However, in all these cases police said that they were innocent people mistaken for braid choppers. An elderly man also died when he was attacked after mistaken as braid chopper, in Danter village of Anantnag district.
Police have already constituted special investigation teams at district levels and announced a cash award of Rs 6 lakh on anyone providing information about braid-choppers. However, not a single suspected braid chopper has been detained.
