Two more die of Swine Flu at SKIMS, toll rises to 27

Two more patients died of Swine Flu at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura, taking the death toll to 27 this season.
Sources at SKIMS told Kashmir Post that a woman hailing from central Kashmir’s Budgam district died of H1N1 on Tuesday.
“She was a case of comorbidities and also tested positive for H1N1 influenza earlier in the week,” they said.
Another male patient from Ganderbal died of influenza on January 7 due to H1N1 at the hospital.
With the fresh deaths, the death toll due to H1N1 influenza in Kashmir has risen to 27 this season, which is highest so far.
Before 2017, the highest number of Swine flu deaths was reported in 2015 when 21 people died of Swine Flu in the state.
The first Swine Flu death this month was reported on January 4.
Doctors at SKIMS said a total of 185 patients were admitted at the hospital and outfit of which 107 were discharged after treatment.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS, Dr S. Amin Tabish told Kashmir Post that there was only one H1N1 positive patient at the isolation ward of the hospital at present and he is being treated.
“Influenza can happen anytime in the winter season. Both January and February are crucial months,” he said.
