Opposition walkout over assaults on Kashmiri students in other states

Opposition members in both Lower and Upper Houses of the J&K Legislature today created an uproar and staged a walkout over the alleged attacks on Kashmiri students in Haryana.
As the proceedings of the Assembly started this morning, National Conference member Ali Mohammad Sagar and CPM MLA MY Tarigami raised the issue and demanded a reply from the state government over the two incidents of alleged assault on Kashmiri students in Haryana in the past few days.
Enraged members said assaults on Kashmiri students had become a routine affair, especially in BJP-ruled states.
Members of the NC, Congress and the CPM stood up and started protesting, asking the government to ensure the students’ safety. While raising the issue, Tarigami said such incidents had serious implications. He said the House, cutting across political lines, should pass a resolution urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to condemn such incidents in Parliament.
The Opposition’s demand for a resolution to be passed in the House was rejected by Speaker Kavinder Gupta. In protest, the MLAs staged a walkout from the House.
In the Legislative Council, NC legislators raised the issue of the safety of Kashmiri students outside J&K and demanded a government reply on it.
As soon the House assembled, the legislators stood up and demanded that the security of Kashmiri students be ensured outside the state in the wake of frequent incidents of assault.
NC legislators Showkat Ganai, Sajjad Ahmed Kitchloo, Qaiser Jamsheed Lone and Ali Mohammad Dar sought the government’s reply on the incidents as well as demanded that a resolution should be passed stressing the safety of Kashmiris outside the state. Congress member Ghulam Nabi Monga backed the NC demand.
Appealing to the opposition members to sensitively handle the issue, Social Welfare Minister Sajjad Lone said, “My Children are also studying in Haryana. The safety of all students outside is the concern of the government. Besides, the security paraphernalia in Haryana is not as strong as in our state, so we are monitoring the issue.”
Unmoved, the NC legislators along with the Congress MLC kept hitting out at the government over the issue and staged a walkout.

Minister: 33,555 jobless registered at employment centres
Jammu: Ajay Nanda, Minister of State for Finance and Planning, on Wednesday said in the Legislative Assembly that 33,555 unemployed postgraduates, graduates, technical degree/diploma holders were registered with various District Employment and Counselling Centres of the state till December 2017. Responding to a question by legislator Mohammad Shafi, the Minister said, under the Government Order No. 912-GAD of 2015, the government had framed a policy for fast tracking the recruitment in government departments for filling up non-gazetted posts borne on the establishment of any department or service of the government and such gazetted posts as may be notified from time to time. “To implement this policy, the J&K Special Recruitment Rules, 2015, has been notified vide SRO 202 of 2015, dated June 3, 2015,” he added.
