Hyacinth terrace, fountain new attractions at Tulip Garden

Even as Tulip Garden is all set to open its doors to the public later this month, a new hyacinth terrace and fountain channel will be the added attractions at the famed tourist spot this spring season.
The garden, which is located in the foothills of the Zabarwan range overlooking the Dal Lake, may also open ahead of schedule with around 1.2 million different flower varieties.
“This year’s added attraction will be the new hyacinth terrace having five to six varieties of the flower. Visitors will also see a fountain channel at the garden that has been put up for the first time,” said consultant for Tulip Garden Javed Ahmad Shah.
He said if sunny weather conditions persisted, the garden might be opened ahead of schedule. “The garden will open in the last week of March… say around March 25. However, it might be opened earlier if the present dry weather conditions persist,” said Shah.
“This year, the garden will see 12 lakh flowers in bloom. A few new varieties of tulips have been added this year. Even though this garden is unique, we have added a fountain channel as visitors are used to seeing it in the Mughal gardens of Srinagar city,” he added.
Tulip Garden, formerly known as Siraj Bagh, was first opened to public in 2008. Besides tourists and locals, the garden also attracts several shooting crews of the film and TV industry. Tourists, who visit the garden, have often been heard saying that they come to see a similar background of tulips as seen in the famous Bollywood song “Dekha ek khwab” of Amitabh Bachchan-Rekha starrer “Silsila”.
