Jammu sizzles at 40°C, hotter days ahead

Temp likely to touch 43°C by May 1; power cuts haunt locals

The weather in Jammu is getting hotter by the day with the maximum temperature touching 40°C on Friday.
As per the weather advisory issued by the agromet division of the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture, Science and Technology (SKUAST-Jammu), the temperature could cross 43°C on May 1, if the dry conditions persist.
SKUAST, Jammu, agrometerology division in charge Mahender Singh said, “This is the expected pattern during the period as the entire northern region is experiencing dry and hot weather. It is the harvesting time for the wheat crop across the Jammu region.”
He said during the next five days, the temperature would continue to rise.
“The weather may remain dry for the next five days. The maximum temperature may range from 40°C to 43°C, which will be above the normal limit by 5°C, while the minimum temperature may range from 23°C to 25°C, which will be below the normal limit,” says the advisory issued for the farmers.
The first week of April saw totally dry weather and rise in temperature, but during the second and third week, Jammu experienced rainfall due to strong western disturbance, which had brought some relief to the people.
Meanwhile, the winter capital has begun to face unscheduled power cuts despite the claims of the Power Development Department that the reforms process had improved transmission infrastructure.
